When you think of white wine, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?
Chances are you think of a fabulous Chardonnay, but there are so many others available.
Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Grigio are just a few of the more visible whites out there.
Ontario wines have had incredible success with these grapes, most noticeably Sauvignon Blanc.
So to pay tribute to this wonderful grape, the Ontario Wine Society is offering a comparison tasting
of Ontario's best Sauvignon Blanc's vs. what the world has to offer. The wines we will be featuring are:
- Chateau des Charmes St. David's Bench 2001
- Henry of Pelham 2001
- Southbrook Triomphe 2000
- Lailey Vineyard 2000
- Mission Hill Private Reserve 2001(B.C.)
- Buena Vista Winery 2000 (California)
- Goldwater Estate Dog Point Marlborough 2002 (New Zealand)
- Yalumba Oxford Landing 2001(Australia)
- Marnier-Lapostolle Chateau de Sancerre 2001 (France)
- Spier Cellars WO Stellenbosch 2002 (South Africa)
These wines range in price from $11.95 to $23.60.
To gain a truly unbiased opinion of the wine we will conduct the tasting semi-blind,
you will know which wines you have, just not which wines are in which glass. Our goal
with this change in format is to receive an honest opinion as to which is the best Sauvignon Blanc
of the evening.
The Tasting Rooms will be preparing a special selection of appetizers that will, as always, superbly compliment these wines.
Dinner is available after the tasting with selections from a special tasting menu.
Free parking is available at First Canadian Place. Enter from York or Adelaide Street and have your ticket validated at the restaurant.
