Icewine Weekend Program

The Ontario Wine Society Icewine Weekend commences at 3:00 p.m. at the Peller Estates Winery, which is located at 290 John Street East in Niagara on the Lake. This is a special tour and tasting that has been arranged for the Ontario Wine Society and will consist of “Andrew Peller Signature Series” wines served in Spieglau glassware matched with premium cheeses and freshly baked breads. The tour and tasting will take approximately one hour - from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Following the tour and tasting participants should check in at the Royal Park Hotel, located at 92 Picton Street [across the road from the Shaw Festival Theatre in the centre of the Town of Niagara on the Lake, and relax until 5:30 p.m. or so, when they should make their way back to the Peller Estates Winery where an incredible dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m.

As the sun sets and you make your way up the driveway to the newly constructed Peller Estates Winery [opened in June of 2001], park your car and walk to the main entrance of the winery while off in the distance you will see the Niagara Escarpment and perhaps even Brock’s Monument. At 6:00 p.m. we will assemble in the Winery lobby and then be shown to our dining room where you will have a panoramic view of the vineyards. While this winery is new, to quote from the Peller brochure “the road to our winery took 75 years to build - a legacy of three generations of winemaking excellence”.

Here you will enjoy what is known as “French Niagara Cuisine”. Unlike last year, you do not have to preselect your choices ahead of time, but rather, you will select from a three-course menu similar to the one listed below. The cuisine is rooted in classical French techniques, using the finest quality ingredients from neighbouring Niagara farms and orchards. There are tables of six - with specially selected wine served with each course - finishing with ice wine.

This is a sample Peller Estates Winery Menu but not necessarily the menu for the Ontario Wine Society menus change monthly and January’s menu is not available at this time.

After dinner we will return to the Royal Park Hotel for a relaxing evening either in your own room, or one of the Ontario Wine Society rooms where you can enjoy the company of other Wine Society members while sipping on Icewine and enjoying cheese, pate and crackers.

The reason we call this Icewine Weekend was that in the past we had always hoped that there would be a chance to go out at 2 or 3 a.m. to pick Icewine grapes. Unfortunately this is the year the Icewine grapes have all ready been picked.

Following a good nights sleep, you will rise and shine on Sunday morning and enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast and then have the day to yourself to tour other wineries, or whatever you wish to do.

The Royal Park Hotel check out time is 11 a.m.
