Ontario wine has come a very long way in a dramatically short time. The single most
important factor in the advance in quality of Ontario wines has been the introduction of the VQA.
This appellation and standard setting system has laid the course for global recognition of Ontario wines.
At this tasting, we are pleased to present a number of the gold medal winners from the 2002 Ontario
Wine Awards, formerly the Air Ontario Awards, competition held on May 10, 2002 at the Fairmont Royal York
Hotel in Toronto. Our own Sadie Darby was instrumental in facilitating organization into a process involving
over 300 wines. This annual competition, instituted seven years ago, is the only one of its kind in Canada
as it is open exclusively to VQA designated wines that have been produced from Ontario grown grapes.
Come join us and sample a selection of the best wines that Ontario vintners produce.
