"Happy Anniversary" Niagara Chapter! To celebrate our first year anniversary, we'll be sampling Pinot Noirs at the highly acclaimed Niagara College Teaching Winery! (NCT) This new facility educates the winemakers of tomorrow, as teams of students produce award winning wines under the supervision of professor winemaker Jim Warren. We'll celebrate with a toast of sparkling wine to kick off the new year. Then we'll start the tasting off with a tour of the production facilities, and finally proceed to the greenhouse, where we'll sample Ontario Pinot Noirs; including NCT Winery's award winning 2002 Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir, otherwise known as the "Heart Break" grape, is a difficult grape to grow. This "selfish" little grape notoriously demands much attention and is a constant challenge for the growers, but if tamed, can result in a drinkable masterpiece. Find out what Ontario has to offer. Taste Pinots from the 2000 & 2002 vintages in a "stepped" horizontal tasting including a number of award winners! Walter Sendzik will lead the tasting. Sendzik is publisher/editorial director of VINES magazine and the co-author of the Buyer's Guide to Canadian Wine, which is now in its third edition. He recently wrote the chapter on Pinot in the new Buyer's book, which was just released at the end of February, so when we say "he wrote the book on Pinot", we mean it! We're very excited to have him lead our first tasting of the new membership year! As always, there will be hor's oeuvres and mingling afterward. We hope to see you there!
