What makes a wine ageable? Which varietals are best suited to aging? How do you know how long to age that great bottle of wine you just purchased? There are a million questions surrounding the ageability of wine and even more uncertainty. Join us as we try to discover some of the answers through access to one of Canada's best wine resources. At this very special tasting, we will be privileged enough to sample wines from the Canadian Wine Library: a library of Canadian wines judged ageable by the Directors, and reserved for use by the industry for promotional, research and educational purposes. The Canadian Wine Library is housed at CCOVI: Cool Climate Oenology & Viticulture Institute (in Inniskillin Hall at Brock University). Established in 1996, CCOVI is a facility dedicated to research in Oenology and Viticulture in cool climate regions and is the only university degree program of its kind in North America. Guest speaker Peter Gamble is a director on the board of the Canadian Wine Library, as well as an independent wine consultant for starting premium wineries such as Stradus here in Niagara, Benjamin Bridge in Nova Scotia, and Lowrey Estates in Niagara. In addition, Gamble is the Founding Executive Director of Ontario VQA and VQA of Canada, and Co-Founder of Cuvée. Gamble will lead us as we will partake in a tasting to discover facts surrounding the ageability and cellaring of some of Ontario's top red and white varietals. As April is the start of our new "tasting" year, a short Annual General Meeting will be held at 6:30pm and will welcome in the new executive of the OWS Niagara Chapter, as well as provide any interested members in an outline of the Chapter's finances and practices. As always, stay after the wine tasting for snacks and mingling. Directions & Parking ($5 charge): For information call the Niagara Wine Line at 905-685-7623 or visit www.ontariowinesociety.com.
