"Ah yes, I'm picking up hints of mineral, tar and petrol". "Petrol??, I thought I was drinking Riesling, not gasoline!!" If you have felt this way you're not alone. Fine wine is one of life's most sensual pleasures but it can also evoke feelings of intimidation or embarrassment in situations where knowing correct "social wine etiquette" is expected. A little knowledge goes a long way in breaking down common misconceptions and myths associated with the world of wine. If you can only smell "alcohol" and "grapes", we'll help you discover "citrus". If you can already smell "citrus", we'll help you discover "petrol" and so forth, as we explore a number of different varietals. It's great for all levels of experience. Our guest speaker will be our very own Colleen Rivard, Owner of The Home AdVintage - Custom Wine Tasting Events (www.homeadvintage.com). Rivard makes a living out of teaching people how to discover the flavours in wines in the privacy of their own homes. She has extensive knowledge of Ontario's famed wine industry and is pleased to share her passion for wine and a few "tools of the trade" she has mastered as a student of many wine sensory evaluation programs including her most recent challenge, Sommelier Certification from Niagara College. Rivard will be conducting her Wine Sensory Evaluation seminar: "Learn to taste and assess wines like the 'pros' using all five of your senses. We will provide you with the tools necessary to unravel the mystery of detecting notes and flavours in wine that have eluded your nose and palate in the past." Come out to visit our hosts from Flat Rock Cellars and explore the world of wine sensory evaluation in an unpretentious, relaxing environment. Flat Rock is one of Niagara's newest wineries and boasts a breath-taking, panoramic view of the surrounding vineyards and the Lake Ontario skyline from their balcony that surrounds the boutique. Don't miss this opportunity to sample some outstanding summer wines from several of Niagara's outstanding wineries. Then stay as we end the evening with some fabulous nibblies prepared on the Barbeque by our very own Rob Trout.
