The Ontario Wine Society Presents
The Niagara Chapter's 2005 Cuvée Winners "You be the Judge" Tour & Tasting

At Magnotta Winery, 4701 Ontario St., Beamsville

Date: Thursday, February 23, 2006; 6:30pm - Reception, 7:00pm - Tour & Tasting
Members: $30     Non-Members: $40

Can you pick a winner? How do your tastes compare to the judges of Cuvée? Each year we are presented with a list of Cuvee winners that we all love to seek out and taste. But how did the judges arrive at the decision that THIS one was the best? How do you know if that's the one YOU would have chosen? At this tasting, we'll take 4 of the winners from Cuvée 2005 and put them up against one of their competitors. You can see if you are able to pick out the winner, and whether or not you agree!

Before we are seated, our hosts at Magnotta will take us on a short guided tour of the facility. Afterwards, our guest speaker Dr. Gary Pickering will lead us through the tasting. Dr. Pickering is an Associate Professor in CCOVI at Brock University. Having studied in New Zealand, he now teaches sensory evaluation classes among other courses. He is the Chair of the Independent Review Panel (IRP) for Cuvée and was on the panel judging last year's Cuvée wines along side of others such as Linda Bramble, Chris Waters and Tony Aspler. Dr. Pickering will explain a bit about Cuvée, the judging process, and what the winemakers and IRP may be looking for in each category. Then you'll be ready to judge this year's winners in March, just on time!

Our tasting will be held at Magnotta at their Beamsville location. Being Ontario's 3rd largest winery (by volume of sales), they are noted for their creativity, innovation, and artistic labels. Magnotta's Sauvignon Blanc won in it's category at last year's Cuvée, and will be one of the wines we taste on this evening.

Afterwards, stay as we end the evening with some fabulous nibblies prepared by one of Niagara's fantastic caterers.
