For years you’ve been seeing new wineries pop up all over the Ontario Landscape. Many of the current winemakers today started off as amateurs, making their masterpieces in their shed or basement. Some of these winemakers have been entering their creations in competitions and winning all types of awards. Come and sample award winning wines made by Niagara’s current amateur winemakers and see where the future of the industry may be headed. Our guest speakers will include Daniel Pambianchi and Bob Gibbon. "Many home winemakers dream of turning their passion of wine into a successful business and share their love of great wines with enophiles, but only very few can realize this dream." Daniel Pambianchi, President and General Manager of Cadenza Wines Inc.*, has been involved in home winemaking for many years crafting many different styles of wine including traditional method sparkling wine. He is the author of Techniques in Home Winemaking: A Practical Guide to Making Château-Style Wines (Véhicule Press, 2002). Teaming up with Stan Maleta, another prominent home winemaker turned pro, Daniel recently made the switch from his telecom-engineering career to found Cadenza Wines (Maleta Winery) and pursue his dream of crafting world-class wines. Bob Gibbon – Treasurer of the Amateur Winemakers of Ontario will also help lead us through the tasting. "Since its inception in 1969, The Amateur Winemakers of Ontario (AWO) has been the co-ordinating body for amateur winemakers in the province of Ontario. They are dedicated to the education of their members and the general public in the art and science of home winemaking. The AWO also promotes the positive health benefits of moderate wine consumption and provides a forum for competitive judging of members' wines." Angels Gate Winery will be our generous hosts for the evening. Angels Gate is situated on the side of the Niagara Escarpment and boasts a spectacular view of Niagara and Toronto. Built on a property that was once owned by the Congregation of Missionary Sisters of Christian Charity in Ontario, its "mission style" building assures you that a "heavenly" experience awaits you.
