The Ontario Wine Society Presents
The Niagara Chapter's
Canadian Oak Comparison

At Lailey Vineyard Winery, 15940 Niagara Parkway, Niagara-on-the-Lake

Date: Tuesday, June 26, 2007; Reception - 6:30pm, Tasting - 7:00pm
Members: $30    Non-Members: $40

Over the last few decades, Ontario wineries have strived to create outstanding wines and create a unique Canadian product. They have achieved a number of benchmark accomplishments in the past: the first Ontario Winery, the planting of Vitis Vinifera grapes, the production and marketing of Icewine, and now, the production and use of Canadian oak barrels! This will surely add the next layer of uniqueness and marketability to our great wines.

Derek Barnet, Lailey's winemaker, will be leading us through this tasting. Lailey was one of the first wineries in Canada to have Canadian oak barrels and Derek was the first winemaker to commercially release a wine fermented and aged in Canadian oak. Currently only a handful of Ontario wineries deal with Canadian oak barrels, but the numbers are growing each year with increasing success.

Join us as we find out what differentiates Canadian oak from it's French or American counterparts, and further, discover first hand what Canadian oak aged wines taste like and how they compare to wines with other oak treatments. Derek will be leading us through the barrel cellar for a barrel sample of their Canadian Oak wine. We will then proceed up to the loft where we will have a comparative oak tasting.

Stay afterwards for great snacks and mingling.

Seating is limited for this event so be sure to register early to avoid disappointment.
