As the second tasting of our "Terroir Series" (a set of tastings designed to explore the concept of terroir) we will narrow in on the differences that can be found here in the Niagara Region. With vineyard-specific bottling, we will explore how our different soil types and micro-climates can impart different qualities in the wine. What better winery to host our event than Inniskillin! Inniskillin is one of Niagara's oldest wineries, and a constant leader in developing and improving the wine industry in Canada; with significant involvement in the establishment of CCOVI, VQA, and the Riedel/Inniskillin Vinum Extreme Icewine glass. But more importantly to this tasting, for years they've been focusing on single-vineyard bottling, and have been researching the relationship between vineyard selection and varietal plantings. Our guest speaker, Phillip Dowell arrived as Inniskillin's winemaker in 1998; however before Canada, Phillip spent his life and career in Australia; working and making wine at wineries such as Wirra Wirra Vineyards, Coldstream Hills, and Southcorp Wines. He arrived in Canada at a pivotal time when the Canadian wine industry was starting to gain acceptance on the world stage and we're glad to have him. Phillip will discuss with us the influences that vineyard selection has on the wine, and in turn, how he then decides what to plant in that vineyard! As always, there will be hor's d'oeuvres and mingling afterward. We hope to see you there! For information call the Niagara Wine Line at 905-685-7623. Seats will not be sold at the door.
