The Ontario Wine Society Presents
Niagara Chapter's March Tasting:
Inter-Regional Terroir from the "Terroir Series"

At Ridgepoint Wines, 3900 Cherry Ave., Vineland

Date: Tuesday, March 1, 2005; Reception - 6:30pm, Tasting - 7:00pm
Members: $25     Non-Members: $35

The origin of the grapes has long been an important factor in traditional winemaking. The "terroir" of the land includes the climate, location, soil, and topography, and is often a good indicator of the character of the wine. Join us as we further explore the concept of terroir at Ridgepoint Wines. This time, we'll sample Cabernet Francs and Rieslings, while discovering the unique terroirs of 4 local viticultural areas: Niagara Peninsula, Pelee Island/Lake Erie North Shore, Prince Edward County, and New York.

Guest speaker Christopher Waters (one of Canada's leading young wine experts) will guide us through this tasting, describing the variances in terroir for each region, as we try to taste if there is a significant difference in flavour. Waters is the Managing Editor for VINES Magazine, where he has worked since its debut issue (98). An international wine judge and guest lecturer, Waters is an arts reporter and wine columnist at the Standard Newspaper. He is also co-author of the Vines Buyer's Guide to Canadian Wines. His articles have appeared in Flare, Shift, The National Post, The Montreal Gazette, The Ottawa Citizen, and the Halifax Daily News.

Ridgepoint Wines is one of Niagara's newest wineries; specializing in premium red wines. They opened their doors in September of 2004 with 3 vintages going back to 2001. Both Authur Harder (winemaker) and Mauro Scarsellone (proprietor) will be our special guests that evening & will be on hand to discuss their wine, as they represent the Niagara Peninsula region for our tasting.

As usual, stay afterwards for mingling and delicious nibblies. Hope to see you there!
