Strewn Winery is a winery with many features! Opened in 1997, it not only houses the winery boutique, tasting room and production area, but it is also the location of the only winery cooking school in Canada, "The Wine Country Cooking School", and the contemporary Provencal restaurant "Terroir La Cachette". An impressive facility for a small "boutique" winery. This is the first of our "Terroir Series"; a set of tastings designed to explore the concept of Terroir. This first one will focus on Global Terroir. Joe Will, winemaker at Strewn Winery, will guide us through samples of Rieslings from Ontario, France, Germany, and Australia as we try to detect the global differences. Joe will discuss the factors that influence terroir and explain how we might detect it. Joe Will is a winemaker/entrepreneur who loves talking about wine! Raised on Canada's West Coast, and wine-educated in Australia, Joe started making wine for other wineries here in Canada. In 1994, he started producing wine under the Strewn label and in 1997 he and his wife Jane Langdon (owner of the Wine Country Cooking School) bought and restored the historic building that Strewn is now located in (the old Niagara Shores Canning Company). Today, with business partner Newman Smith, Joe produces premium VQA wines from grapes grown in the Niagara Peninsula. As always, there will be hor's oeuvres and mingling afterward. We hope to see you there! For information call the Niagara Wine Line at 905-685-7623. Seats will not be sold at the door. Members $25, Non-Members $30. Members may bring one guest at member price.
