Chateau des Chateau des Charmes Winery tour and tasting. Dinner and accommodations at White Oaks Inn & Resort. SPECIAL for Niagara Chapter Members: Winery Tasting & Dinner at Chateau des Charmes only, $130 per member including taxes and gratuities (SPACE IS LIMITED) Icewine Weekend 2006With the weather getting colder, many of us are contemplating the dreary days of winter that follow the holiday season. Well, to fight the winter blues, The Ontario Wine Society is offering members a very special way to spend a couple of days in February with their annual Ice Wine Weekend. This year the host winery is Chateau des Charmes. The story of Chateau des Charmes begins over five generations ago with a family that traces its roots to the Alsace region of France. In these foreign lands, the ancestors of winemaker Paul Bosc began a heritage of winemaking that would serve the family for generations to come. A graduate of one of Europe's finest winemaking schools, the University of Burgundy at Dijon, Paul Bosc came to Canada from France in the 1960's. He brought the Old World tradition of winemaking to his new home and he grafted that knowledge and tradition to the soils of Niagara. Since 1978, guided by great vision, passion and five generations of winegrowing experience, Paul has been committed to developing the best possible vineyards sites in order to produce wines that have become recognized as benchmarks in the Ontario wine industry. The first to plant a wholly vinifera vineyard, Chateau des Charmes now encompasses four vineyards in Niagara-on-the-Lake totalling 250 acres - the largest winery owned vineyard holdings in the Niagara Peninsula. In 1993, they became the first Canadian winery to win a gold medal for a table wine at Vinexpo in Bordeaux, France, with their 1990 Chardonnay, Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard. A recent recipient of the Order of Canada, Paul is joined by his wife Andrée and his son Paul-André who represents the sixth generation of winegrowing expertise. Accommodations this year will be at the White Oaks Inn & Resort.
