2004 Icewine Weekend Program

The Ontario Wine Society Icewine Weekend commences at 12 noon when you can check in early at the Colonel Butler Inn. This special advance check in time will allow you to drop off your bags and if you wish visit some of the numerous wineries and shops in the area or simply relax at the inn. This is also the last weekend of the special Icewine Celebrations which include Icewine Tours, Ice Sculpture Competition, Chocolate making demonstrations and Educational Seminars.

A special "Ontario Wine Society members and friends" premium wine tasting is scheduled at Hillebrand Estates Winery at 3:00 p.m. This "Essence" tasting will be served in Spieglau glassware and will unveil the mysteries of aromatic essences commonly associated with red and white wines. This tasting focuses on influences such as soil, climate and the artful hand of the winemaker in developing the nuances of Hillebrand Estates Wines. The tasting will take approximately one half hour - from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Following the tasting participants could return to the Colonel Butler Inn and relax until 5:30 p.m. or so, when you should make your way back to the Hillebrand Estates Winery where an incredible dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m.

As the sun sets and you make your way through the entrance of the Hillebrand Estates Winery, park your car and walk to the main entrance of the restaurant where at 6:00 p.m. we will assemble in the lobby and be shown to our private dining room.

Here you will enjoy exceptional regional cuisine, with specially selected fine wines matched to each course and like last year, you will select from a three-course menu similar to the one listed below. The Hillebrand Estates Winery Restaurant has been rated one of Niagara's top restaurants for over ten years and was once again awarded a 3.5 star rating in Toronto Life magazine.

MENU

This is a sample Hillebrand Estates Restaurant Menu but not necessarily the menu for the Ontario Wine Society dinner as menus change monthly and January's menu is not available at this time.

Appetizers:

Soup of the Day
or
Effingham Baby Romaine Lettuce with Toasted Almonds, Peppercorn Roasted Pears and Blue Cheese Emulsion
or
Creamy Chicken Liver Pate with Pickled Eggplant, Toasted Pine nuts and Apple & Mint Chutney

Entrees:

Thyme Roasted Monkfish Fillet with Cauliflower Potato Puree, Roasted Carrots and Almonds on Bacon Caper Dressing
or
Roasted Breast of Quebec Capon with Three Potato and Aged Cheddar Cheese Gratin, Shitake Mushroom and Winter Greens on Mushroom Jus
or

Desserts

Pumpkin Sticky Toffee Pudding with Sweet Bay Anglaise and Pumpkinseed Praline
or
Double Chocolate Crème Brulee with White Chocolate Sabayon and Gamay Cinnamon Jelly
or

After dinner you will return to the Colonel Butler for a relaxing evening either in your own room, or the Ontario Wine Society hospitality suite where you can enjoy the company of other Wine Society members while sipping on Icewine and enjoying cheese, pate and crackers.

The reason we call this Icewine Weekend was that in the past we had always hoped that there would be a chance to go out at 2 or 3 a.m. to pick Icewine grapes. So far the Icewine grapes have not been picked so be prepared to leave the comfort of the Colonel Butler Inn and go out into the night to pick Icewine grapes, an experience you will not forget.

Following a good nights sleep, you will rise and shine on Sunday morning and enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast and then have the day to yourself to tour other wineries, or whatever you wish to do.

The Colonel Butler Inn check out time is 11 a.m.
