The Canadian Wine Library at Brock University is once again offering the Ontario Wine Society an unprecedented tasting opportunity from its collection. The Canadian Wine Library is an incorporated permanent, revolving collection of Ontario's finest VQA wines judged ageable by the directors of the Library, to be used by the industry for promotional, research & educational purposes. The Library wines have been acquired & cellared by Brock University's Cool Climate Oenology & Viticulture Institute (CCOVI).

Last year the OWS had a CCOVI tasting of Riesling. This year we will see how various Cabernet/Merlot wines ('Bordeaux blends') age, and how stronger and weaker vintages mature in the bottle. We are fortunate to have 3 different wineries over 3 different years to compare.

The wines to be tasted are:

  • 1995 - Cabernet Merlot Cave Spring Cellars
  • 1995 - Cabernet Merlot Lakeview Cellars
  • 1995 - Cabernet Merlot Henry of Pelham Winery
  • 1998 - Cabernet Merlot Cave Spring Cellars
  • 1998 - Cabernet Merlot Lakeview Cellars
  • 1998 - Cabernet Merlot Henry of Pelham Winery
  • 1999 - Cabernet Cave Spring Cellars
  • 1999 - Meritage Lakeview Cellars
  • 1999 - Cabernet Merlot Henry of Pelham Winery

The tasting will be conducted by Claudius Fehr, a Canadian Wine Library Director. Claudius is purchasing manager for VINTAGES. He was one of the first Canadians to receive the Diploma from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust.

As usual, the Tasting Rooms will offer a fabulous plate of appetizers to enjoy with the wines: 4-yr. old Canadian Cheddar on apple - Niagara preserve ~~ Smoked duck, caramelized onion, apple cider & orange reduction on baguette ~~ Mini lamb pie with root vegetables & mint ~~ Tortilla wrap, grilled vegetables, goat cheese & roasted garlic ~~ Sesame chicken with roasted red pepper aioli.

Free parking is available at First Canadian Place. Enter from York or Adelaide Streets and have your ticket validated at the restaurant.
